Interview
Q : How did your rugby career begin, or how were you introduced to rugby?
A : My dad played rugby in college & the years following, and introduced me to the game at a young age. He started a rugby club for my school district when I was in 8th grade & I went on to play in high school. Needless to say I was hooked from the start.
Q : What do love most about rugby?
A : I love rugby for many reasons, but there are two that stick out in particular. First, rugby is for everyone. No matter where you are from, what you believe in, your size, speed, or strength, there is somewhere on the pitch for you if you have the heart for this game. Second, the sport teaches you many lessons that carry over to life off of the pitch. It is a game that tests you mentally, physically, and even emotionally. This game tests your will, shows you how you overcome adversity, and how to work with others to achieve one common goal.
Q : What would you like people to know about rugby who have never encountered the sport before?
A : Rugby is a lot safer than most people assume. I think a lot of outsiders view rugby as almost a barbaric game, and I have come to learn that this is not the case. There are certain rules that we play with to keep our players as safe as we can, such as having to wrap when we tackle & keeping tackles below the shoulders. While the game can certainly be tough, when played correctly you will see it truly is a beautiful sport.
Q : What is your favorite personal rugby moment?
A : My favorite personal rugby moment would have to be playing in the 2019 MAC 7s tournament at Miami, OH. The tournament was held in their football stadium, and it was definitely one of the coolest venues I had ever played in. Having a sizable crowd on hand always adds to the atmosphere of a match.
Q : If I had an airplane full of jellybeans and I wanted you to get them all out, but in a very sanitary way so that I could still eat them, what would you do? You have 24 hours to do this, and unlimited funds.
A : This is pretty tough, but I would have to say I am buying as many brand new snow shovels and trash bags as possible & getting my Forge teammates to help me out.
Q : What is your favorite movie?
A : The Shawshank Redemption
